What is medical transcription? Medical transcription is the process of converting a dictated medical audio report into a text document, which becomes a part of the patient's permanent medical record. It is an allied health profession that plays a vital role in patient care. There is a very high demand for qualified medical transcriptionists, and this demand is only increasing due to the rapid growth in health care industries. Medical transcriptionists have the option of working in a clinic, hospital, or at home.

Can I really work from home doing medical transcription?
Absolutely! Medical transcription is a legitimate and highly respectable at-home profession.

Do I really need experience first?
Experience is key. Hands-on experience is usually required to gain employment. MT graduates are often faced with this challenge: "How can I get hands-on experience if no one will hire me?" The Experience STAT Training Dictations will help you solve this dilemma.

What specialties and what types of reports will I be transcribing from the Experience STAT Training Dictations?
You will be transcribing 18 different specialties: Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Oncology/Hematology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Pulmonary, Radiology, Rheumatology, and Urology. The reports include the "Big Four" (History and Physical Examinations, Consultations, Operative Reports, and Discharge Summaries) and include many ESL dictations.

How many hours of actual transcription training will I receive with the Experience STAT Training Dictations?
With over 1000 minutes of medical dictation, novice MTs can expect to invest well over 100 hours of actual transcription. We recommend you transcribe these dictations at least twice, doubling your hours of hands-on experience.

Is there any prerequisite training required?
Knowledge in medical terminology is recommended. However, such knowledge in medical terminology CAN be obtained through transcribing the Experience STAT Training Dictations if you take the time to look up and study every word, abbreviation, and acronym that is new to you.

Are the Experience STAT Training Dictations done by real doctors in unrehearsed situations?
Yes! All dictations are 100% authentic, done by real doctors in acute care, hospital and clinic settings.

Will I receive a transcribed answer key for all dictations?
Yes! You will receive a 300+ page professional spiral bound answer key to study and compare with your work. All reports have been transcribed according to the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT) Book of Style guidelines.

What does ESL mean?
ESL means "English as a Second Language." Many physicians in the United States are ESL dictators, and it is imperative for the MT to develop an "ear" for these foreign accents. The Experience STAT Training Packages are filled with ESL dictations for you to master.

How do I transcribe from the CDs?
You will need transcription playback software such as Express Scribe, which is a completely free download made available from NCH Swift Sound. All you need to do is click here to download Express Scribe and then easily set up your wav foot pedal that connects directly to your computer.

Where can I purchase a wav foot pedal
? NCH Swift Sound sells wav foot pedals at a very reasonable price… much, much cheaper than buying a traditional cassette transcriber!
